Sheppardton Kennels is in Edendale, West Melton,
Christchurch. The name refers to the city of "Shepparton" in
Australia and its relationship to the owners of the parent Kelpies - Ron
and Susan Sheppard - and to the origin of the Kelpie breed.
Ringbarka Amber Nites (Delta), the dam, comes from near Shepparton in
Australia hence the strong connection for this Kennel.
Colours
Kelpies come in many
different colours. They can be red, chocolate, black, blue,
fawn, black and tan, red and tan. They have a very easy care
coat. It is a double coat which is short and dense covered by a
coarser outer coat which protects the dog from rain.
Temperament
They are a very intelligent
dog, great with people and other animals. They quickly become
attached to their owners. They are not standoffish in character
and love to be busy whether it be tracking, agility, obedience or just
going for a walk and playing fetch. They are also natural
working dogs, bred for sheep work.
